Peter Fallon likes the combination of the ActiveReports Designer and the power to customize

"I use ActiveReports because it allows me to combine the best of both worlds - a visual Designer coupled with the abiity to hand tune the reports to any degree using code behind, then compile the result into my app and present a professional print preview/export experience to my clients. The only way to get a more powerful reporting experience is to write pure GDI+ code.

And the same report code works on Windows Forms and ASPX systems. Fantastic."

Michael Hersey inherits ActiveReports, is greatly surprised and now uses it for just about everything

"I originally purchased ActiveReports because it was required for the product I was working on. However, after using it for a very short time, I found myself integrating these great tools into just about everything I touched."

"These products have the most complete feature set, the most flexibility, and they are very user friendly and developer friendly. Thanks!"

Ericsoft switched to ActiveReports after running into licensing, performance and support issues

"We were using Crystal Reports XI as our main report engine. Due to licensing problems, Crystal Reports doesn't offer an editor. It also has a massive setup that sometimes doesn't work.

This lead us to search for an alternative, and ActiveReports did all we needed a report engine to do. ActiveReports was lightweight, fast!!! and offered a working editor for its reports. The licensing system is great.

We also received technical support both directly and indirectly (via other postings) through the support forums. This benefit was also missing in case of Crystal Reports."

Orion Healthcare selects ActiveReports because of its features and licensing model

We chose ActiveReports due to its full feature set, friendly licensing model for web-based applications, and ease of development. Having a unified reporting platform across all of our products (both desktop and web) in a single engine was helpful, and the royalty-free deployment with cross-browser (flash) viewer support in version 6 is great!

Panatech finds ActiveReports power unmatched by other reporting tools

"We are embarking on a Web project that demands nothing less than outstanding reporting capability for both looks and functionality. And because we are a small shop of less than 5 people, we need it to be easy—and quick.

For anyone not familiar with the internal functionality of ActiveReports in its own right, they are in for a giant, pleasant surprise! Compared to all the other report writers out there, ActiveReports just blows the doors off of them.

Having ActiveReports is like having a high-powered portable electric drill when everyone else is using a manual screwdriver.

Hands-down, ActiveReports and GrapeCity support have been a mission-critical resource and a key reason for our success in our Web venture.

Henry Fiorentini considers GrapeCity's technical support a mission-critical resource for his business

“I would like to thank all the folks at ActiveReports and GrapeCity for their phenomenal support these past few months....The .NET and Visual Studio realm is completely new to us, making GrapeCity’s support all the more critical and impressive."

"The email-based technical support has been exceptional.  At times, they have even helped me code features that are clearly not part of supporting their product per se, but they helped me implement these in a timely, efficient, and classy manner. Hands-down, ActiveReports and GrapeCity technical support have been a mission-critical resource and a key reason for our success...”

ActiveReports helps a small team to deliver a best-in-class product

"We use ActiveReports because of the ease of use and the ability to directly control the SQL for data retrieval. We also find the ActiveReports designer provides the tools to produce rich and graphically pleasing reports very quickly. In a small production shop, we have ActiveReports to be the best product on the market."

ActiveReports helps Wesley Witt manage Boy Scouts events

"I actually use ActiveReports to develop a comprehensive application for the Boy Scouts that manages large events. I would not have been able to create this application without ActiveReports. I have use ActiveReports since the 3.0 release. I have found that ActiveReports is very easy to use, preforms well for me and give me all the features that I need.

Thanks for developing such a great product."

Erin Arroyo finds both Spread and ActiveReports easier to use than the competition

"We purchased the Spread controls since they were better and easier to use than the Microsoft Grid controls in .NET. We purchased the ActiveReports product because it was easier to use than Crystal Reports. We also liked the option of the end user reporting which allows the end users to customize the reports in their layout because every team in our organization likes to display their reports a little differently ."

TallySoft uses ActiveReports, Data Dynamics Reports and ActiveAnalysis for all their reporting and BI needs

"In the previous version of our product, we used Crystal Reports and ActiveReports. Crystal was an un-stable nightmare while ActiveReports was solid and easy for our developers to design.

When moving to .Net/ASP we wanted the same stability while adding a report designer and interoperability with Microsoft RDL (if possible). After researching competitors we felt comfortable that Data Dynamics Reports was the best choice. The added ActiveAnalysis product looked good as well so we purchased both. However, we have not yet implemented ActiveAnalysis.

We are currently designing with Data Dynamics Reports and find the same consistent quality and reliability that we experienced with ActiveReports. There are some features that we would like to see (open the designer interaces more to the developers instead of the Black Box) but overall we are comfortable that we made the right choice."

Why Robert Ripp switched to Data Dynamics Reports and Spread

"I turned to GrapeCity products when competitive offerings did not work for us. Our product is a spreadsheet based application with heavy reporting features. We tried to use Crystal Reports but its user interface was terrible and support nonexistent. The moment we switched to Data Dynamics Reports, I knew we had a winner - it was 1000% better than Crystal Reports.

Similarly, we replaced Infragistics UltraGrid tool with Spread for Windows and had a similar experience: dramatic improvement in performance, features, and coding efficiency. In both cases, we've gotten timely feedback from the support forums.

I've been very pleased with these products and look forward to continued new releases."

Philippe Jolidon combines the best of ActiveReports and Spread in their .NET applications

"We have have purchased ActiveReports and Spread for Windows Form.

ActiveReports was integrated into our first .NET application. ActiveReports was the product we found on forums that offered the best quality/price factor and is convenient for delivering high quality embedded documents for our Pharma customers. We still enjoy using ActiveReports!

We have been using Spread from the time we developed our software using C++ and as soon we migrated our products migrated to .NET, we started using Spread for Windows Forms. Spread delivers a unique grid layout for our software solutions and lets us add user interface components to the grid layout."

Chris White finds dynamic reporting easy to do with ActiveReports

Brian Macomber likes ActiveReports features and flexibility

"I switched to ActiveReports right after starting to use Crystal Reports. Haven't looked back since. ActiveReports works much better, doesn't require COM and being able to do code behind gives me much more flexibility."

GrapeCity announces ActiveAnalysis 2.0 Beta with Freeform Data Analysis and Data Visualization for Microsoft Silverlight

The world’s first freeform data analysis and data visualization component for Windows Forms and ASP.NET adds Silverlight support and Excel export

MORRISVILLE, NC — GrapeCity today announced the availability of ActiveAnalysis 2.0 Beta, formerly known as Data Dynamics Analysis. The world’s first freeform data analysis component for Windows Forms, ASP.NET and Silverlight allows developers to rapidly embed out-of-the-box OLAP, data visualization, and ad hoc business intelligence (BI) features into their applications.

Designed for Microsoft Silverlight 4, the latest version supports printing and the use of context menus within Silverlight. The Silverlight support allows .NET developers to rapidly embed out-of-the-box interactive, cross-browser data analysis and visualization features into their applications.

Another significant feature is the support for exporting the onscreen data to Microsoft Excel for offline analysis. End users can export the onscreen data, including encoded values and exports it to a format that allows them to further analyze or manipulate the data in Excel.

Major new features include:

• Silverlight based out-of-the-box cross-browser data analysis capabilities
• Excel export for offline analysis on the desktop
• Intelligent processing of numeric and date data to display more information in less space
• Automatic selection of the correct visual representation based on the data type
• Accelerated information discovery and analysis for end users

Commenting on the release, James Johnson, the GrapeCity PowerTools Product Manager said, “By enabling Silverlight based data analysis combined with Excel export, the product effectively allows developers to benefit from the centralized deployment and distribution of their Silverlight based web application while giving users the rich client experience they get with traditional desktop tools.”

The release version of GrapeCity ActiveAnalysis 2.0 will be available for Windows Forms, ASP.NET and Silverlight. Prices start at $999, with site licensing and annual maintenance available.

ActiveReports provides UK's Lovetts with competitive advantage and customer satisfaction

"Lovetts plc is a market leading commercial debt recovery law firm in the United Kingdom. We have a reputation for technical excellence that has been built over many years and has allowed us to both gain and retain clients over and above our competitors.

Some years ago we were looking at options to be able to provide a reporting suite for clients through CaseManager, our client extranet. Preliminary investigations narrowed the field of potential products down to Crystal Reports and ActiveReports.

Since ActiveReports is written in .NET and integrates so well with existing C# code, it was the clear winner. The ability for our developer to be able to customize reports and make use of existing .NET modules considerably sped up the development process and has also allowed us to be more responsive to client demand. This has allowed us to provide our clients with a full reporting suite - a facility that is much appreciated by our clients!"

Jim Bullington likes the ActiveReports reliability and robustness

"We wanted a product that was flexible and easy to use and we have found that in the ActiveReports product. We haven't found a report yet that we couldn't get created in ActiveReports. We love it!"

GrapeCity’s Spread and Data Dynamics Reports allow Fintelligent to provide a superior financial planning solution

Fintelligent is a company that provides software and services that help growing companies to improve their financial performance through better financial planning. After careful evaluation, for reporting, they selected the Data Dynamics Reports product as it offered the best combination of features and value.

Robert S. Ripp, CEO of Fintelligent, LLC writes:
“Whether providing summary-level documents for a board of directors presentation, or detailed variance reports for line managers, the Data Dynamics Reports engine provided all the tools we needed to provide great looking reports.”

As Robert writes again:
"We were very happily surprised by the level of support we received as we implemented our reporting solution. Our experience with GrapeCity led to our decision to replace our UI Grid control with Spread for Windows Forms."

Spread for Windows Forms proved to be the exact fit for their sophisticated user interface requirements that included easy data entry and numerical analysis, with the added benefit that the end users were already familiar with the Excel style spreadsheet user interface and that made the adoption among the end users easier.

Robert concludes by writing:
“We switched to Spread for Windows Forms and the improvement was dramatic. Not only was the application more stable, but we had a ton of new out-of-the-box features that required very little customization to work properly.”

LPA Corporate Solutions finds the performance, flexibility and zero royalty of ActiveReports invaluable

ActiveAnalysis allows InfoPlanIT's users to go beyond reporting with ad hoc data analysis

"Our solution allows users to analyze real time data and discover anomalies in their transaction data. The Data Dynamics Analysis (soon to be ActiveAnalysis 2.0) product allows our users to rediscover their data in a way that no reporting product can do.

The value that it delivers after learning how to use it is invaluable. Users are able to build charts and spreadsheets with very little effort. Our clients that know how to use the shelves and markings absolutely love it. They can easily build charts and spreadsheets by dragging and dropping database columns on the display."

Why Melmarc chose ActiveReports for its .NET reporting

"I considered Crystal Reports and several other products, the names of which now escape me. In all, I looked at four products. Ease-of-use and the ability to have multi-level subreports were the two main considerations. I evaluated the four products by obtaining demo versions and using them to create test reports. ActiveReports stood head and shoulders above the other three products. I knew of the support and track-record of the company by word-of-mouth."

Why the Oklahoma Student Loan Authority switched to ActiveReports for their .NET reporting

"We purchased ActiveReports to replace our other tool because of pricing, licensing and capabilities. ....We wanted to find something that was easy to use when creating the reports, that wasn’t cost-prohibitive, and that worked well with Visual Studio. When I came to my current place of employment, we needed reports with the data formatted in ways that this other reporting tool couldn’t handle. We purchased ActiveReports on my recommendation.

"Creating the type of reports that I’ve created using ActiveReports with this other reporting tool would have been extremely cumbersome, if not impossible, to do."

I also love having the ability to write VB.NET code within an Active Report and how it integrates so easily into Visual Studio. That alone has cut down on development time because there is such flexibility to manipulate the output based on certain conditions. It makes the maintenance of code a lot easier too."

Why Total Computer Group selected ActiveReports for its .NET reporting

Back in 2004, Al Perez and his team started working on the detailed architecture of the .NET application. A key item on their list was selecting the .NET reporting technology to use in their system. They evaluated a number of alternatives and finally shortlisted this other reporting tool and GrapeCity's ActiveReports for a comparative evaluation.

Al describes what happened next. He says, "The product we evaluated ActiveReports against was this other reporting tool. The other reporting tool blew our software installation up from 8 MB at the time to a big number! There was no comparison between this other reporting tool and ActiveReports and we sure are glad we made the right choice in selecting ActiveReports."

Why Interactive Intelligence selected ActiveReports for its .NET reporting needs

"In one case (with this other reporting tool), I was not even able to easily use their API to configure the data source, much less to manipulate data at run-time. Not only were their help and samples inadequate, it took their support personnel two days to return my call. Ultimately the solution they provided was nothing like their samples, and was so convoluted and non-intuitive as to render it unusable. All this was just to bind a report to a custom data source."

"Each of the other products I tried, though better than my dismal experience mentioned above, did not function as well or as easily as ActiveReports.....Moreover, in comparison with other products, we feel that ActiveReports enables us to deliver more tailored, informative, integrated, distinctly customizable, and better-looking reports."
